Jerwood Sculpture at Ragley

Jerwood Sculpture at Ragley, Alcester, Warwickshire
Opened in 2000, moved to Ragley in 2004

The creation of a collection of 20th and 21st Century sculpture is a major initiative of the Jerwood Foundation and an important part of our wide-ranging support of the visual arts. From its beginning in 1999, the aim of Jerwood Sculpture has been to display large sculptures in a natural environment. Since 2004, Jerwood Sculpture has been sited in the magnificent grounds and park of Ragley in Warwickshire, home of the Marquess and Marchioness of Hertford.

There are currently twenty-one works in the collection, set out along a two mile Sculpture Trail, which also includes award winning seats by timberwright Andrew Trotman. Alongside sculptures by artists of international reputation such as Armitage, Ayrton, Chadwick, Frink and Gormley, the collection includes works by emerging artists who have won the Jerwood Sculpture Prize. Maquettes for the prize winning pieces and other commissions can be seen in the new Jerwood Stable Studio exhibition and education space. It is a priority of the Foundation to develop the collection by purchasing and commissioning new works to be placed at Ragley.

Ragley Hall

Ragley Hall was designed in 1680 by Robert Hooke, friend of Sir Christopher Wren and rival of Sir Isaac Newton, and is one of England's earliest Palladian houses. It stands in 400 acres of picturesque parkland landscaped by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown and 27 acres of formal gardens. The park and gardens provide a spectacular and unique setting for Jerwood Sculpture.
