Sarah More (b. 1950)
Sarah More was born in Penzance and trained at Brighton College of Art (1968-69) and Loughborough College of Art and Design (1969-1972). She then spent six years as a carpenter and joiner during which she developed her passion for design and craftsmanship.
More subsequently trained at the City & Guilds London Art School (1978-80), and afterwards in the workshops of Richard Kindersley and John Skelton, where she developed a lasting appreciation of rhythm and balance in carved lettering. Explorations of colour and texture and a long-standing interest in materials and the built environment have led More to experimental work in building and landscaping.
More has won a number of awards including the Winston Churchill Travelling Fellowship (1990) and the Melhuish Bequest, South West Arts Board (1991) and she has completed a number of public commissions in the U.K. and the U.S.A. She has exhibited in all major lettering exhibitions, including The Prince's Foundation 15th Anniversary Exhibition, Alberto Vilar Gallery, London.
