Gereon Krebber (b. 1973)

Gereon Krebber studied at the Art Academy in Dusseldorf before completing an MA in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art (2002). He has won several awards for his work including the Wilhelm-Zimolong-Preis (2001) in Germany, and the Deutsche Bank Pyramid Award (2002) and Remet ‘Shaping the Future' art award (2002) in the UK.

Since winning the Jerwood Sculpture Prize in 2003, Gereon has won the Phoenix Kunstpreis (2005) and exhibited nationally and internationally. In the UK he has held solo shows at the Henry Peacock Gallery, London (2005) and Grundy Art Gallery, Blackpool (2007). Gereon's numerous solo shows abroad include All That is Solid Melts into Air at the Kunsthalle, Wilhelmshaven (2007), which was accompanied by a catalogue illustrating fourteen of his exhibitions and installations from 2004-2007. Gereon lives and works in Cologne and London.

The artist moulds his ambiguous and sometimes humorous forms from a variety of materials including fibreglass, resin, gelatin and polystyrene. Often vast in scale, they billow, bulge, tangle, coil, spill out, shimmer and shine in the architectural settings where they are often installed. Daniel Spanke comments that they 'add something soft, organic and irrational to a harsh, cubical and tangible architecture - gelatine and balloons versus concrete' (D.
