Winner of the Third Jerwood Sculpture Prize, 2005

In 2005 Dean won the third Jerwood Sculpture Prize with her proposal for Field.

Cast from a section of a real field, and with an earthy patination, Field gives the illusion that a small area of Ragley's lawn has been ploughed. Judith Dean was interested the estate's cultivated landscape, traditions of work and social history, nature and artifice, and things temporary and permanent. In her words, ‘I see this work as a kind of memorial / monument to a ploughed field, a reminder of something temporary which still exists'. Its location, in the gardens between the Hall and fields, is designed to prompt all those questions that beset her when she first confronted the site.
