Creation demonstrates Marzia Colonna's fascination with the human form as a retainer of human emotion, touching in its fragility and strength. 'I never see the body in a purely representational way but as a retainer of human emotion, touching in its combination of fragility and strength. Henry Moore found the female form pivotal to his work, Elisabeth Frink the male. In my work they are of equal importance, as is the balance between the two. In Creation, male and female emerge from the same tree trunk, different but in essence the same. In the series of lovers I look at the sexual act, intimate and individual and yet common to all, repeated again and again like a thread through time. In the metamorphic figures I recognise the need in all of us to protect our inner being, the need for camouflage and ultimately our isolation' (Artist's statement).
